Soap Tray Holder - CNC

For this project, I decided to make a soap tray holder. My points of reference were Yamazaki Home and the Butterfly Stool. My initial idea was to create something simplistic and useful. Given the small dimensions of the Othermill machine, I chose to make a soap tray holder for my home.

My initial model caused some holder collisions during the simulation, so I had to redesign it several times.

When I started milling, I realized the woodblock was too tall for the machine. I had to redesign the holder again and used a bandsaw and sander to reduce the height.

Milling Issues: I encountered failures during the milling process. Here are some pictures of my failures:

  • Block Attachment: I failed to stick the block tightly enough to the frame.

  • Bit Attachment: I also failed to secure the bit tightly enough, leading to additional issues.

Despite these challenges, I persisted and learned valuable lessons about the importance of proper setup and equipment handling. There are my final product and a video of me using it.
